The Open Mobile Video Coalition is an alliance of U.S. commercial and public broadcasters committed to the development of mobile digital television. The Coalition’s current members include leading broadcast station groups operating over 420 commercial television stations.
The coalition also has the support of leading television trade associations, including the Association of Public Television Stations (APTS), a non-profit corporation representing over 350 public television stations, the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB), the trade association of the commercial broadcasters, as well as Maximum Service Television (MSTV) which providing broadcast technology services for a broad variety of broadcast constituents.
Membership in the coalition is open to U.S.-based television broadcasters and related constituents dedicated to advancing mobile digital broadcast television.
To accelerate the development of mobile digital broadcast television, and capture the full potential of the digital television spectrum in the United States. The coalition will help identify and encourage broad adoption of technologies that enable mobile reception of digital broadcast television signals, so that consumers can watch television wherever and whenever they want, not just in the home.
The Coalition’s charter contemplates:
- Serving as a forum for members and participating affiliates regarding product requirements and technology specifications related to mobile digital broadcast television
- Promoting the development of products, services and standards enabling mobile digital broadcast television
- Educating broadcasters, technology developers, consumers and regulators about the value, benefits and applications of mobile digital broadcasting
The Coalition’s scope includes promoting development of industry technical standards, technical requirements, conditions, protocols, reference implementations, test suites, and best practices related to enabling mobile digital television. The Coalition's advocacy efforts will focus on accelerating the development of mobile digital broadcast TV technology, solutions and content, driving regulatory support, as well as promoting consumer mobile DTV adoption.
